This title is borrowed from a fellow Mama- you know who you are!
I love it when...
*you grab my cheeks with your hands and squish our heads together
*you look at old men with grey beards and say "Ho Ho Ho"
*you wrinkle up your nose at people in the grocery store
*you sing hands in the air, rock a bye your bear, bear is now asleep, sh sh sh
*we ask you a question and you nod your head really slow and say "ya" (pronounced the german way)
*you pat the seat next to you and say mama
*I get home from work and you yell "MAAAAMAAAA" from your bedroom even though you're supposed to be asleep. But that's ok, cuz I get to rock you the second time because your daddy already did.
*the three of us are home together and you look from me to your dad to me and say mama, daddy and then you smile. It's like you know those times are precious and far between.
After an intense meeting of the Marquette Moms tonight(a group of moms willing to help out around the studio on a volunteer basis), I had the chance to stay and talk with one of my most famous student's mom. This is a student who has fallen in love with dance. She not only takes at my studio, but two others as well. She dances 5 nights a week, taking tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, pointe, hip hop, and competition team. Everyone knows who this girl is. My 6 year olds ask for her autograph. After the year end recital, people ask, "Now who was that girl in almost every number? Wow- I couldn't take my eyes off her. What year is she?" Year in school they ask, thinking High School. I say no, not high school, she's 13. Actually she just turned 14. I remember her at 8. Anyway- here is my list:
1. Dancers get good grades.
2. Dancers respect the adults in their life.
3. Dancers are used to a demanding schedule, they adapt.
4. Dancers are intense thinkers and persevere till the end.
5. Dancers are used to putting forth perfection in dance class- so they do the same everywhere else.
6. Dance is a language, getting out frustration, envy, anger, tiredness, boredom, love, happiness, sadness, prayer, excitement, joy.
7. Dance teaches rhythm, balance, coordination, flexibility, muscle memory- but also responsibility, critical thinking, team building, memorizing and expression.
8. Dance class is a safe place. Teens hang out at the dance studio at night, instead of other places they shouldn't.
