Random..
- Sometimes I feel on top of the world, like yesterday when I loaded, ran, unloaded and loaded the dishwasher, took Maya to the Doctor, picked up her prescription, movies and sick snacks with some crafty things to do while your sick, put some silk flowers in my curtain tie back holders, made a chicken broccoli braid for the fam for dinner and put it in the fridge, bathed and hairwashed the sick girl, went to work from 4-9.
- Sometimes I feel at the bottom of the world like this morning when it took all that I have in me to get my 3 year old to take her medicine. Finally after the third time of her spitting it out, both of us were crying, she was in time out and had peed on the floor, I gave up.
- Sometimes taking a hot shower and removing yourself from situations gives you a new outlook on things. This is what I decided about the whole medicine thing:
This is on our fridge. Yes, it's bribery folks. Does that make me a bad mommy. I hope not. Everyday she has to take her medicine two times. She will get a sticker each time. At the end of 10 days when the medicine is all gone(with no spitting it out), we will go to the store and get her most precious and coveted snow white halloween costume with a magic wand and sparkle shoes. I figure I have to get the halloween costume at some point anyway, so why not use it for these extenuating circumstances.
- Especially for Nana- this was last week. She was so excited to go to school. Here she is in the car, getting ready to get out for school..
Here she is with one of her teachers that had to lean down to remind her to say goodbye to her mommy who was in the car frantically snapping pictures like the papparazi. So after missing school Tuesday for a sinus and ear infection we are going back for her second day today.

you are supermommy. because i say so.
this is so great. it made me smile! I agree with Marie...you certainly are being quite a supermommy!
I am not above bribery either, my friend- you gotta do what you gotta do. Hope it works out for you!
oh, learning that good behavior sometimes gets you what you want is not a bad lesson. :) there are many lovely parallels for that. :)
and i so get the roller-coaster feelings. i get them and i'm not a mommy. you're super for coming up with such a creative way to show your girl that a spoonful of sugar (or a sparkly halloween costume, as the case may be) sure does help the medicine go down. ;)
Token rewards are used effectively all the time. Just think, we don't work for free; we get paid. You are a great mom. Sorry to hear the meds giving was so hard that day. Hugs to you.
oh...sounds tough! Great idea with the costume!
So not a bad, mommy!
My pre-motherhood opinions have changed in so many ways since becoming a mom and
I've learned that some things just call for bribery!
Mis,
That is an outstanding idea to make a med chart. From one frazzled feeling like the worst Mom ever to another, bribery can be your best friend!
Good luck!!
~Stephanie
P.S. Ditto what Marie said.
Hee hee
I know its a bit late, you're probably finishing up the meds by now, but I wanted to share that I have the same problem with my dd every single time she takes meds. Last winter she had pneumonia and had to take the meds or go to hosp. We gave her a lollipop and in between tiny sips she could suck on the lollipop to take away the taste. It took forever but it worked. Whatever works, go for it!! Good job!
